France wants to add Google Tax

France is contemplating to tax internet companies which main source of income is online advertising. This so called ‘google-tax’ will be used to help musicians who suffer from illegal downloading.

This tax could collect well over 50 million euro each year. This is just a small cut compared to the whopping 800 million euro Google makes in France every year.

The Google department in France hoped that the government would find a more innovative and fitting solution other than adding new taxes. The idea group for digital media, Renaissance Numerique, called the tax unfair. Advertisers nor Google rob artists from their income.
